Professor Florence Martin Named Inaugural Association of Educational Communications and Technology Fellow

Florence Martin, a professor of learning, design and technology in NC State’s College of Education, has been named an inaugural Association of Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) fellow.

AECT is a professional association of instructional designers, educators and professionals who provide leadership and advise policy makers in order to sustain a continuous effort to enrich teaching and learning. The Fellows Award honors AECT members who have a record of exemplary educational communications, technology accomplishments and research.

“I consider it an honor to receive this award as a mid-career faculty, as this is an honor bestowed upon members with exemplary or groundbreaking educational communications and technology accomplishments,” Martin said.

Martin’s research focuses on the design and integration of digital teaching and learning innovations and, more recently, has centered on the design of online learning environments and cybersecurity and computer science education.

Since joining the College of Education during the 2022-23 academic year, Martin has authored several articles focused on cybersafety for K-12 students and best practices for digital teaching and learning. She is also a principal investigator on several grants from the National Science Foundation, NC Policy Collaborative and National Security Agency, through which she will examine the effectiveness of monitoring software in K-12 schools and implement professional development in technology security for K-12 educators.

As an AECT fellow, Martin will work on a project to support the organization, however the details of the project have not yet been finalized.
